However, these opinions appear insufficient with respect to the content and purport of the verse, and further deliberation remains necessary. Accordingly, the present study, employing a descriptive-analytical method, examines the contextual framework and focuses on keywords such as "jaʿl" (to make/appoint), as well as employing Quran-by-Quran exegesis, to investigate the intended meaning of "umma wasaṭ" in the verse, adopting a critical approach to existing exegeses and translations. This analysis demonstrates that the contextual atmosphere of the verse, in thematic connection with the preceding verse, aims to elucidate and emphasize the ṣirāṭ mustaqīm (straight path) and its qualities. Hence, the designation of the community as "middle" signifies guidance toward the straight path, with the objective of preventing deviation among Muslims. The straight path is consequently understood as a way that entails characteristics such as permanence, obligation, stability, and impermissibility of deviation. The Muslim who adheres to this path, in accordance with the continuation of the verse and as confirmed by religious texts, will serve on the Day of Resurrection as a witness, testimony, and criterion for humanity. مفهوم «امت وسط» از جمله مفاهیمی است که در آیة ۱۴۳ سورة بقره سبب شده تا مفسران و محققان عرصة علوم قرآن و حدیث نظرات مختلفی پیرامون معنای آن بیان کنند. این در حالی است که به‌نظر می‌رسد این نظرات حول مفهوم و محتوای آیه کافی نباشد و همچنان نیازمند درنگ بیشتر است. در همین راستا، پژوهش حاضر به‌روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی با توجه در سیاق و تمرکز بر کلیدواژه‌هایی چون «جعل» و نیز تفسیر قرآن‌به‌قرآن، به واکاوی مراد آیه از امت وسط پرداخته است و رویکردی انتقادی به تفاسیر و ترجمه‌های موجود دارد. این واکاوی اثبات می‌‌‌کند که فضای آیه در پیوند محتوایی با آیة قبل در پی آن است که صراط مستقیم و کیفیت آن را تبیین و بر آن تأکید کند. ازاین‌رو منظور از قرار دادن امت وسط، هدایت به صراط مستقیم با هدف جلوگیری از انحراف مسلمانان است. صراط مستقیم نیز راهی معنا می‌شود که متضمن ویژگی‌‌هایی نظیر دوام، الزام، ثبات و تخلف‌ناپذیری است. مسلمان ملزم به این صراط، مطابق با ادامة آیه و به تأیید متون دینی، در روز قیامت شاهد، گواه و میزانی برای انسان‌ها نیز هست. https://qoranshenakht.nashriyat.ir/sites/qoranshenakht.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/5001619-1791011780.pdf
