Muslim scholars have paid special attention to the science of Qur'an interpretation since the establishment of Islamic seminaries. The interest in Quranic studies and exegetical writings grew more and more in the 14th century AH, and many scholars and commentators wrote in this field. This article studies the exegetical character of Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, as one of the interpreters of the Islamic Seminary of Qom in the 14th century, and recounts his role and activities in the field of contemporary Quranic studies, using a descriptive-analytical method. The result of this study shows that Ayatollah Makarem is one of the great and prominent exegetical scholars of the recent century, and his exegetical and Quranic works have been noticeable for the different sections of society and has had a significant impact on the Quranic activities and researches of this era. He has interpreted the Qur'an in both sequential and topical interpretation styles. His interpretive works have structural coherence and have guidance and educational orientation. The characteristic of his exegetical work is modernity and reliance on valid standards in the interpretation of scientific verses, revival of the old Shia interpreter’s method, having a reasonable style in processing the content of Quranic verses, relying on the method of ijtihadi interpretation of the Qur'an.
