Abstract:
There are many reasons to prove the infallibility of the Holy Prophet and the Imams, one of which is the verse “Obedience” (“Ati`oo 'r-Rasoola wa Ooli 'l-Amri Minkum”): "O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. " (Surah Nisa, verse: 59). From the Shia viewpoint and some Sunni scholars, this verse indicates the infallibility of the Holy Prophet and ''Ooli ‘l-Amr'' (those in authority), and one of its main arguments is the application and premises of wisdom. The implication of the verse was questioned in the article " An Investigation of the Implication of the Verse ‘Ati`oo 'r-Rasoola wa Ooli 'l-Amri Minkum’ in Infallibility"" authored by Hussein Atrak and published in Hikmat Contemporary Journal (Year 11, Vol. 1, 2020). This paper shows that none of the proposed problems are complete. Like the Shiite scholars, the author believes in the completion of the implication of the verse thorough the premises of wisdom. He argues that the Glorious God meant to remark obedience and did not restrict it any way, even though there was a possibility of restricting it. Therefore, this verse includes obedience of any type. The extension of obedience to the Holy Prophet and the Imams in any obedience and action has mutual implication with infallibility. Drawing on descriptive-analytical-interpretive method, this paper first expounded the arguments of the verse to prove infallibility and then criticized the claim and arguments of the above- mentioned article using "critical" method.
